'Queen of Scream' MELISSA CROSS To Teach Seminar In Pacific Northwest
July 24, 2008Internationally renowned "Queen of Scream" Melissa Cross will teach her "Zen of Screaming - New Breed Vocal Seminar" for the first time in the Pacific Northwest, September 13, 2008 at Seattle's famous London Bridge Studio and September 16 in Portland (location to be determined).
Included in the three-and-a-half-hour seminar is an all-star panel of the Northwest's top lead screamers who will discuss "Vocal Survival on the Road." Confirmed panelists include Jake Weholt (FROM APHONY),Tommy Vext (DIVINE HERESY, SNOT),Andrew Moore (KANE HODDER),Tryg Littlefield (FALL FROM GRACE) and Sam Logan (RUSTMINE).
In the early '90s, a passionate and unrestrained movement of singers emerged from the underground that tested the extreme limits of the human voice. Heeding the call of the warriors of rock and metal for over 15 years, Cross developed a vocal training method that has since been embraced by these artists who value raw power and passion above everything in their performance. Her long client list includes: Angela Gossow (ARCH ENEMY),Will Francis (AIDEN),Matt Tuck (BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE),Dani Filth (CRADLE OF FILTH),Randall Blythe (LAMB OF GOD) and Corey Taylor (SLIPKNOT).
Cross's vocal technique combines physiology, acoustics and neuroscience to enhance range and increase endurance without sacrificing intensity and individuality. Heralded as an expert in the production and application of extreme music distortions, she recently presented at the New York Singing Teachers Association at Columbia Teacher's College and is a member of the Voice Foundation; the world's oldest and leading organization dedicated to voice medicine, science and education.
While in the Pacific Northwest, Cross will be in the vocal lab conducting in-depth video stroboscopy of the vocal mechanics of screaming culminating in a collaborative research paper to be presented to the international voice community.
Cross's vocal colleague on TC Helicon's International Voice Council, Mary Beth Felker and owner of PNW based The Voice Project, is presenting this rare opportunity in the birthplace of grunge to help artists who normally would not be able to access this high-level training in the specialized area of extreme music. This includes outreach to the next generation of singers by granting scholarships to 25 students from The Vera Project, Rock School, Rock 'n' Roll Camp for Girls and the Paul Green School of Rock in Seattle/Portland.
Space is limited. Tickets are now on sale to the public at $69/ticket or $89/ticket plus DVD. Cross will also be available for private lessons at both locations.
